Linked birth certificate and hospital discharge data can be used for data-driven decision-making as well as for monitoring and studying pregnancy-related complications. Introduction Public health agencies and researchers rely heavily on birth certificate and hospital discharge data for national and local surveillance and research activities related to pregnancy complications, risk behaviors, and neonatal outcomes [ 1 , 2 ]. Discussion This study extends previous work on birth certificate and hospital discharge linkages by surveying Vital Registrars and SSDI Coordinators about their birth certificate and hospital discharge data linking practices. Conclusion Results from our survey shed light on the current state of administrative data linkages in the 52 US vital registration jurisdictions.
